• Songkran Festival - Thailand Water Festival

  • One of the best times to visit Thailand is during Songkran Festival, Thai New Year. It is a time when family and friends get together to show respect to their grandparents and receive their blessings. Thai people also visit local temples for merit-making. Some Thais usually release birds, fish or turtles back to their natural habitat.

  • This water festival is one of the most loved and popular events in Thailand. It is the festival that offers a lot of excitement while welcoming the traditional Thai New Year with amazing water splashes and getting all soaked up even if you are dressed in your nicest clothes (no matter what, unless monks, new born babies and the elderly)

  • When Is Songkran?

  • Songkran is traditional Thai New Year which takes place over 3 days during April 13th-15th throughout the whole country. The official Songkran festival lasts three days but, Thai people nationwide celebrate as everything shuts down just for a water fight.

  • Where to go?

  • Thai people celebrate Songkran all over the country especially in Bangkok or other major cities, However, Khao San Road is one of the craziest that we suggest you should visit at least once. Khao San Road is known as the spot for backpackers in Bangkok. However, during this time, it’s probably the best place in Bangkok for Songkran party. The area becomes epic water fights. People armed with water guns while enjoying pumping music from the local establishments. Make sure you prepare water gun and splash side by side with locals or make new friends with other tourists from around the world.

  • What you need to know before you Songkran!!

  • 1.    First thing first, it’s all just for fun, so don’t get angry. Everyone can get soaked!!

    2.    You might get daubed in a white paste made of scented powder and water. Nothing to worry, it’s harmless.

    3.    It’s a good idea to ware sunglasses as it can protect your eyes from unknown water.

    4.    Secure your valuables in your room and be mindful of any you do take with you.

  • One most important thing, If you carry any electronic device with you such as a mobile phone or PocketWifi Be sure to use a waterproof pouch (cheap and widely available). This can protect your device getting damage from water. Also, always keep an eye on your belongings as there is a huge number of people and it’s really crowded.
